From sketch to screen. The process of producing animations.

Motion design is a powerful tool that can bring ideas to life and convey complex concepts in a visually stunning way. While it may seem like a simple task to create an animation, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the final product is both effective and impactful. In this blog post, we will take you through the process of creating motion designs, and how we go about it.

Our Process

Artwork - The process of creating motion designs for me starts with a pencil and paper. I sketch out my ideas, and then bring them to life using Adobe Illustrator, where I draw the vector artwork. I find this stage of the process to be crucial, as it allows me to experiment with different styles and concepts before committing to a final design.

Storyboard - Once the artwork is complete, I move on to storyboarding. Storyboarding is a critical step in the process, as it allows me to plan out the entire animation before I start animating. During this stage, I will sketch out each scene and make notes on what actions will occur, what the camera angles will be, and what the timing will be. Having a well-planned storyboard ensures that the animation runs smoothly and that the message is communicated effectively.

Animation - When the artwork and storyboard are approved, I move on to animating the artwork using Adobe After Effects. This is where the magic happens, and the artwork comes to life. I bring in the individual layers from Illustrator and create keyframes to animate each layer. This stage of the process can be time-consuming, but it is also where the animation really takes shape.

Audio - Finally, we add audio to the animation. We have a database of music tracks that we select from, and we’ll choose a track that matches the tone and feel of the animation. We also have a diverse network of voiceover artists that we can reach out to for custom voiceovers. Adding a voiceover is often a crucial step for presenting your message clearly and effectively, but is not always essential.

Conclusion

Creating motion designs is a complex process that requires a lot of planning, creativity, and attention to detail. From sketching out ideas to animating artwork and adding audio, each step of the process is crucial in ensuring that the final product effectively communicates the intended message, with maximum visual impact.
